Khozan, c, 3, 2012 by Distorted Humor

1st Dam: Delta Princess (MGSW. $740,918), by A.P. Indy
2nd Dam: Lyphard's Delta, by Lyphard
3rd Dam: Proud Delta, by Delta Judge

Owner: Al Shaqab Racing
Breeder: Adena Springs (KY)
Trainer: Todd Pletcher

Khozan, a 1 $350,000 FTSAUG yearling purchase, became the second highest priced horse sold at the Fasig-Tipton March sale when picked up by Al Shaqab Racing for $1,000,000 after breezing a furlong in :09 4/5. (Click here to view the sales coverage on Khozan) The purchase price was no surprise given the dark bay's royal pedigree. Out of the late Delta Princess (A.P. Indy), a three-time graded stakes winner and top producer, Khozan is a half to four J "TDN Rising Stars" J in the great Royal Delta (Empire Maker), Ch. 3yo Filly & two-time Ch. Older Female, MGISW, $4,811,126; Crown Queen (Smart Strike), GISW, $593,000; Carnival Court (Street Sense), GISP, $161,662; and Empire Way (Empire Maker), GSP, $119,170. Hustled from his far outside post in this 14-horse affair, the 9-5 chalk tracked from a three-wide fourth through an opening quarter in :22.99 and a half in :46.18. Drawing even with Wisecracker (Distorted Humor) heading into the far turn, Khozan swiftly disposed of that rival at the top of the lane and sailed clear along the rail to secure a 3 3/4-length victory. The final time was just under 4/5 of a second faster than the final time for the GIII Hutcheson S. for 3-year-olds, which was run at the same distance. Adena Springs purchased Delta Princess for $2.6 million at the 2011 Keeneland November sale with this foal in utero as part of the Palides Investments dispersal. The year 2011 proved to be a big one for Delta Princess with four of her offspring selling for a total of $11 million. Empire Way brought $250,000 at the Fasig-Tipton March 2-year-old sale and Carnival Court sold for $650,000 as a yearling a few months later at the Keeneland September sale. Part of the same Palides Investments dispersal as their dam at the Keeneland November sale, Crown Queen dropped the hammer at $1.6 million as a weanling; and Royal Delta summoned a whopping $8.5 million as a 3-year-old. Delta Princess' final foal was a Street Cry (Ire) colt who is now a 2-year-old. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $24,000.
