Friday evening’s Listed Valley Pearl S. at Moonee Valley boasted a handful of well-credentialed juveniles, including A$1.1-million yearling and G2 Silver Slipper S.-third Showtime (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}); ‘TDN Rising Star’ and Group 3-placed Muraaqeb (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}); and stakes-placed filly Pageantry (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}), but it was first-time starter Doubt I’m Dreaming (Aus) (Not A Single Doubt {Aus}) who indeed set his connections dreaming with a scintillating victory in class-record time. Breaking well, Doubt I’m Dreaming dropped back to last early as Muraaqeb and Coruscate (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) dueled for the lead with Showtime keeping close order. Working his way up closer as they ran down the side of the course, the bay moved three-wide for room rounding the final bend and responded with an explosive kick when pushed by Jamie Mott. He swept past the frontrunners as Showtime chased in vain, and ultimately won by 2 3/4 lengths eased at the wire. Veteran rider Mott told Racing.com, “Obviously I haven’t ridden a Group 1 winner yet but I’ve had a lot to do with Group 1 horses through trackwork and he’s definitely the best horse I’ve ridden since I’ve been riding. He put them away pretty easily. I think he could get to the top level. Trainer John McArdle said he was already fielding offers for the juvenile after he won a barrier trial a week ago, but said that it would take a “fairly big offer to secure the colt, who was a A$210,000 purchase from Milburn Creek from last June’s Magic Millions National Yearling Sale. Doubt I’m Dreaming is the eighth foal out of Dreaming Of You, who is a half-sister to American stakes winner Nash Terrace (Ire) (Nashwan) as well as the dam of G1 Metropolitan S. winner Sir John Hawkwood (Ire) (Sir Percy {GB}) and Group 3 winner Greek Renaissance (Ire) (Machiavellian). The colt’s third dam is G1 Irish 1000 Guineas winner Gaily (Sir Gaylord), whose dynasty has grown to include stakes winners in France, Germany, Japan, Italy, the U.S., England, Dubai, Ireland and Hong Kong, such as Japanese champions Tamuro Cherry (Jpn) (Secreto) and Fine Motion (Ire) (Danehill); and Pulsudski (Ire) (Polish Precedent), a Grade/Group 1 winner in four countries. Dreaming Of You has a yearling colt by Hinchinbrook (Aus) and was barren last year after being covered by Rubick (Aus).
