Top Fillies To Face Off at Randwick

Saturday's G2 Light Fingers S. over 1200 meters at Randwick marks the returns of a quartet of Group 1-winning 3-year-old fillies. Last year's G1 Golden Slipper winner Mossfun (Aus) (Mossman {Aus}) makes her first start since taking that feature, having missed the spring, but the bay has prepared for this with two trials, a second and Warwick Farm Jan. 27 and a fifth at Rosehill Feb. 3. Peggy Jean (Aus) (Myboycharlie {Ire}) took last year's G1 Sires' Produce S. but finished off the board–a fifth in the G2 Furious S. and a seventh in the G2 Tea Rose S.–in two spring outings, and comes in first-up off the latter outing Sept. 20. Favoritism is likely to fall to the China Horse Club's First Seal (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), who handed that operation its first Australian Group 1 when winning the G1 Flight S. in October. She was last seen finishing second against males in the G1 Spring Champion S. a week after the Flight, and was second in a Randwick trial Feb. 2. Amicus (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) was last seen publicly when winning the G1 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield Oct. 11, and she comes into this off two trials–a Jan. 20 fifth at Rosehill and a second there Feb. 3.
