Setback For Sheehy

Danny Sheehy | Racing Post

Promising young apprentice Danny Sheehy faces a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a broken leg sustained in a fall at Dundalk on Friday night. The 7lb claimer and former pony racing star was unseated when his mount Mosman (GB) (Haafhd {GB}) clipped heels after a furlong in the last race of the night. Sheehy was brought to hospital at nearby Drogheda and his father Eamonn provided an update on the 16-year-old's condition. “I was with him in the hospital until 4 a.m. and he was either going to have a plate put in to his leg or just a cast,” he said. “I asked the doctor about a time frame when he might be back and he said between six to eight weeks. It's a shame as he was flying but it could have been much worse, as he suffered concussion also.” Sheehy, who is still attending school, has ridden seven winners since making the transition from the pony racing field to the racecourse proper last autumn.
