F-T Gulfstream Debut for Q Bar J

Jenn and Quincy Adams's Q Bar J Thoroughbreds has been in operation for just three years, but has already enjoyed success in the sales ring and on the racetrack. The operation will look to take another step forward Wednesday when it offers its first consignment at the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale.
“A lot of buyers like to see the horses perform on dirt,” Quincy Adams said of the decision to sell at Gulfstream this year. “This is the premier 2-year-old sale, so we decided we should sell here.”
While the Adamses do take on outside clients, Q Bar J Thoroughbreds is primarily a pinhooking venture and the couple shopped the yearling auctions last season with the Gulfstream sale in mind.
“We were looking for quality,” Adams said. “We wanted a super individual with enough sire power not to be overshadowed in the catalogue.”
Q Bar J Thoroughbreds will offer a five-horse consignment at the Gulfstream sale, with colts by Union Rags (hip 4); Uncle Mo (hip 43); Into Mischief (hip 104); and Flat Out (hip 150), as well as a filly by Orb (hip 112).
Q Bar J Thoroughbreds received a timely update ahead of the Gulfstream sale when Dominating Woman (Dominus) streaked home to graduate by 7 ½ lengths at Santa Anita Saturday. The operation sold the filly (hip 365) for $50,000 at the OBS March sale last year.
That racetrack success follows on the heels of a pair of standout results at the OBS April Sale. Q Bar J sold a filly by Quality Road (hip 1214) for $775,000 last April, a year after selling a colt by Giant's Causeway (hip 898) for $560,000 at the Ocala auction. The colt was a $75,000 purchase by Q Bar J at the 2014 OBS August Sale, while the filly was a $112,000 Keeneland November purchase in 2014 and was sold on behalf of Machmer Hall.
While the Q Bar J Thoroughbreds name might be new, Quincy Adams is anything but new to the pinhooking game. Adams is a son of pinhooking pioneer J. L. Gladwell.
“I've been in the business my whole life,” he admitted.
Q Bar J Thoroughbreds is well on its way to building its own name recognization, according to Adams.
“We have a good reputation as people who sell a sound product, a horse that people can go right on with and have luck,” Adams said.
The under-tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream Sale will be held Monday beginning at 10 a.m. The auction will be held Wednesday in the Gulfstream Park paddock beginning at 4 p.m.
