Purse Increase For Tattersalls Gold Cup

The G1 Tattersalls Gold Cup, to be run May 28 at The Curragh and annually a springboard into the flat season for some of Europe's top older horses, will this year be worth €300,000. The 10 furlong contest was last year worth €250,000 when Fascinating Rock (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) beat subsequent G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe winner Found (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).

“We are very grateful to Tattersalls for their continued commitment to The Curragh and the boost in prize money will ensure we maximise the opportunity to attract the top middle- distance horses in Europe,” said Derek McGrath, chief executive officer of The Curragh Racecourse.

Tattersalls Chairman Edmond Mahony added, “Based on official ratings, the Tattersalls Gold Cup was the second-best flat race run in Ireland last year, and the €50,000 increase in prize money reflects the global stature of the race. Tattersalls Irish Guineas weekend is amongst the highlights of the European racing calendar and we are proud to have been sponsoring the Tattersalls Gold Cup for more than 30 years.”
