4th-HSN, ¥11,400,000 ($100k), 3yo, Newcomers, 1400m
Darby Dan Farm's Shackleford has had success with a limited number of starters in Japan, including two-time winner Secret Aria, and Kazumi Yoshida's ICE PASTEL (x Million Gift {Jpn}, by Sunday Silence) looks another promising sort as she gets her career underway. A $135K KEESEP buyback turned $190K OBSAPR breezer, the bay is a half-sister to SW Million Seller (A.P. Indy), herself the dam of La Lode (Shackleford), a strong second on her 1800m debut at Kyoto Feb. 18. Her dual Grade I-winning second dam Maplejinsky (Nijinsky II) produced champion Sky Beauty (Blushing Groom {Fr}), while further down the page are Darby Dan sire Tale of Ekati (Tale of the Cat), GI Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold) and English Horse of the Year Dayjur (Danzig).
6th-HSN, ¥13,720,00 ($120k), 3yo, Allowance, 1800m
KAKERU TESORO (Mizzen Mast–Storidawn, by Hennessy) was a close klefordDan, hird in two tries on grass to begin his career and graduated convincingly when switched to the dirt for the first time at Chukyo Jan. 28. Bred by Rosecrest Farm, the gray was hammered down for $250K at the 2016 OBSMAR sale, a price that was the best of the 24 juveniles by his sire sold that year.

2nd-NKY, ¥9,550,000 (US$83k), 3yo, Maiden, 1200m
BLANC MEGERE (Hansen–Debit or Credit, by Cat Thief) , a debut third over the Tokyo turf in November, was the narrow runner-up when trying the dirt for the first time Feb. 11 and cuts back slightly in trip for this. Produced by a half-sister to GSW & G1SP Alke (Grand Slam) and to MSW & GSP Debit My Account (Classic Account), the gray filly cost $260K as an OBSAPR juvenile, the most expensive of her expatriated sire's 31 first-crop 2-year-olds to sell in 2016 (Click for TDN Sales PPs). Blanc Megere has Storm Cat 4×3 in her pedigree.
