Racing New South Wales's version of the GI Pegasus World Cup, known as The Everest, is now fully subscribed, with the final slot of 12 having been snapped up on Wednesday.
The chief executive of Racing NSW, Peter V'landys, broke the news on Twitter, announcing via the social media platform, “It's only fitting that my first ever Tweet is to announce that all slots for The Everest have now been filled. Sydney now has a $10mil race!”
Each of the 12 berths have been bought at a cost of A$600,000 per year, with investors signing up for a three-year commitment to race, which will be run this year at Randwick over 1200 metres on Saturday, Oct. 14.
From the A$10 million prize-money available, the winner will receive A$5.8 million, with A$1,425,000 allocated for the runner-up and A$800,000 for third. The fourth-placed horse will receive A$400,000, fifth takes A$250,000 and the remainder of the field will collect A$175,000 each.
Earlier in the week it was announced that the G1 Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign (Aus) (Manhattan Rain {Aus}) will take her place in the inaugural line-up after syndicate manager Scott Darby reached an agreement with Yu Long Investments for the star filly to use their slot in the race. Top sprinter Chautauqua (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) is another intended starter, while purchasers of other Everest places include bloodstock agent James Harron and sales company Inglis.
All slots can be transferred by their owner, either by being sold or leased to the owners of eligible horses.
