+BENGALA (FR) (f, 3, Pivotal {GB}–Bright Sky {Ire} {Hwt. 3yo Filly-Fr at 9.5-11f, Hwt. Older Mare-Fr at 7-9.5f & MG1SW-Fr, $840,814}, by Wolfhound), who was acquired for €350,000 as part of the Wildenstein dispersal at Goffs last year, was restrained to race towards the rear after breaking with the front rank in this unveiling. Shaken up and angled to the outer soon after turning for home, the 14-1 chance quickened smartly to go fourth entering the final eighth and kept on strongly under a late drive to collar Aurora Butterfly (Ire) (Born To Sea {Ire}) by a short head on the line. “She's a nice filly, she was working well and I'm not surprised she won,” said trainer John Oxx. “She was a bit raw and we knew she'd need an educational run. The number one thing was to get her in between horses, teach her a bit and then see with a flick of the whip what she could do. The ground is a bit sticky, but it didn't seem to bother her and she's probably impervious to the ground. I think she'll go on good ground. She could come down in trip and there is a Listed race [Salsabil S.] at Navan in 18 days time so we'll see how she comes out of the race. She was bought in the Wildenstein dispersal and I had her for a few weeks before that. [Owner] Mr [Robert] Evans bought her and thankfully sent her back to me. I wasn't doing anything with her, just hacking around, but you could see she was really athletic. She has a good pedigree, I gave her a good reference and fortunately the man that bought her sent her to me. She might be one for America in due course.” Bengala is the third scorer produced by G1 Prix de Diane and G1 Prix de l'Opera-winning dual French highweight Bright Sky (Ire) (Wolfhound), and is kin to a yearling filly by Australia (GB). Bright Sky is herself out of MGSW G1 Prix Vermeille third Bright Moon (Alysheba) and is a half-sister to MGSW G1 Prix Jean Romanet, G1 Prix Vermeille and G1 Prix de l'Opera placegetter Board Meeting (Ire) (Anabaa), who in turn is the dam of stakes-winning G1 Criterium de Saint-Cloud third Big Blue (GB) (Galileo {Ire}).
