Distorted Humor

Trainer Wesley Ward made it two-for-two in 2-year-old races at the Keeneland meet with a convincing win by his homebred +HAPPY LIKE A FOOL (f, 2, Distorted Humor–Lastofthsummerwine, by Sky Mesa). Bet throughout and off as the 9-5 favorite, the chestnut broke behind stablemate Paris Cruise (First Samurai), but was soon up to that one's flank to duel through a :22.23 quarter. Taking charge on the latter half of the turn, Happy Like a Fool kicked away by the eighth pole and hit the wire four lengths to the good of her barnmate despite racing on her left lead for much of the stretch. The final clocking was :51.83. Our Girl Abby (Majestic Warrior) kicked in strongly late to just get up for third. The winner's second dam is a half to GISWs Nine Keys (Forty Niner) and Silver Voice (The Minstrel). Third dam Clef d'Argent (Key to the Mint) was a GSW half to GISW French Colonial (Tom Rolfe). Lastofthsummerwine, second for Ward at Keeneland in her only start, has an unraced Quality Road sophomore filly by Quality Road and foaled a colt by Super Saver last term before visiting American Pharoah. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $36,000. O/B/T-Wesley Ward (KY).[bullet ad=”ashview-farm-foaled-raised”][bullet ad=”nyra-astoria-fillies”]
