Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud has reinforced it's commitment to racing with the contribution of £330,000 in race sponsorship this year spread out over three days of racing in Britain and France. The most high profile day is at Newmarket Sept. 29 when Shadwell sponsor all seven races on the card which features both the G2 Shadwell Joel S. and the G3 Shadwell Rockfel S., races won last year by Cougar Mountain (Ire) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) and Spain Burg (Fr) (Sageburg {Fr}) respectively. Two weeks before Newmarket the Shadwell team will be in Ayr for their Gold Cup festival when they will sponsor four races on Ayr Bronze Gold Cup Day, Sept 17. By sponsoring at this event, Shadwell aims to raise the profile of the Al Maktoum College of Higher Education in Dundee, of which HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum is the patron. The college aims to advance cross cultural understanding by running open lectures and short courses as well as residential courses for students from the UAE.
The regular summer fixture at Deauville will also remain on Shadwell's sponsorship roster for 2017, with six races backed by the stud Aug. 19, headed by the G2 Prix de la Nonette. Richard Lancaster, director of Shadwell Stud said, “The support of Thoroughbred racing is an integral part of Shadwell's ethos. It gives us a chance to invest in the sport, which His Highness Sheikh Hamdan is most passionate about. It also affords us the opportunity to meet the owners and breeders from all over Europe who have supported our stallions. We are delighted to have had a great deal of support from many French breeders, who have sent mares to Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) in his first two seasons. Therefore, sponsoring in France is an ideal opportunity to meet and thank them, while giving something back to the industry.”
