G2 UAE Derby hero Thunder Snow (Ire) (Helmet {Aus}) will take his spot in the starting gate for next Saturday's GI Kentucky Derby, Sheikh Mohammed's Godolphin has announced. “He is a big, strong colt, who is improving all of the time and acts on dirt, and we are looking forward to seeing him take on the best 3-year-olds in America,” trainer Saaed bin Suroor said. “The Kentucky Derby is a great race and one of the few major international contests Sheikh Mohammed and Godolphin has yet to win… Thunder Snow is a colt of the highest class and I hope that he can step up in the Kentucky Derby.” For a video of bin Suroor courtesy Club Godolphin, click here. A winner of last October's G1 Criterium International at Saint-Cloud, the homebred also annexed the G3 UAE Two Thousand Guineas before his narrow defeat of Japanese star Epicharis (Jpn) (Gold Allure {Jpn}) in the UAE Derby.
