South Africa's National Yearling Sale begins Wednesday and runs through Friday in Johannesburg, with 492 yearlings catalogued. The progeny of leading sires like Captain Al (SAf), National Sale graduate Dynasty (SAf), Fort Wood, Judpot, Silvano (Ger), Trippi and Var will be offered, as will progeny of international sires Rock Of Gibraltar (Ire) and Sir Percy (GB). First-season sires represented include G1 KrisFlyer Sprint winner Ato (SAf); Cartier champion Duke of Marmalade (Ire) (first South African-bred progeny) and triple Group 1 winner Jackson (Saf).
The catalogue includes the progeny of 15 Grade 1-producing mares and the progeny of nine Grade 1 winners. Past graduates of this sale include the aforementioned champion sire Dynasty as well as Horses of the Year Legal Eagle (SAf) (Greys Inn) and National Colour (SAf) (National Assembly); champions Marinaresco (SAf) (Silvano {Ger}) and Elusive Fort (SAf) (Fort Wood) and last season's Triple Crown winner Abashiri (SAf) (Go Deputy).
