VOLFANGO (IRE) (c, 3, by Dutch Art {GB}–Celebre Vadala {Fr} {SW-Fr}, by Peintre Celebre), who earned TDN Rising Stardom with a taking score over this course and distance on debut last time May 6, was off the pace in fourth for most of this second go. Inching ever closer in the straight, the 17-10 second choice was nudged along just before the quarter-mile marker and pushed out once quickening to challenge entering the final furlong to comfortably assert by 3/4 of a length from Aim True (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}). The homebred bay is a half-brother to last year's G1 Prix du Moulin victor Vadamos (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}), the 2-year-old colt Stirling Value (GB) (Pour Moi {Ire}) and a yearling filly by New Approach (Ire). Their stakes-winning dam Celebre Vadala (Fr) (Peintre Celebre) is a half-sister to the G1 Queen Anne S. and G1 Prix d'Ispahan-winning sire Valixir (Ire) and to the dual stakes-placed Vadaza (Fr) (Zafonic), who in turn produced G1 Prix Saint-Alary heroines Vazira (Fr) (Sea the Stars {Ire}) and Vadawina (Ire) (Unfuwain). Other descendants of Vadaza include G2 Prix du Conseil de Paris scorer Vadamar (Fr) (Dalakhani {Ire}) and G3 Prix Cleopatre victress Vadapolina (Fr) (Trempolino), herself the dam of G1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches second Veda (Fr) (Dansili {GB}). Volfango is from a family which also includes GI Breeders' Cup Mile-winning sire Val Royal (Fr), G1 Prix de Diane-winning European highweight Valyra (GB) (Azamour {Ire}) and G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois winner Vahorimix (Fr) (Linamix {Fr}).
