Godolphin's Appleby Speaks Out

Charlie Appleby | Racing Post

Fresh off saddling three winners at Newmarket on Saturday, Godolphin trainer Charlie Appleby spoke about the departure of John Ferguson from the organization on Tuesday. Ferguson's resignation came after Godolphin's other British-based trainer, Saeed bin Suroor, revealed to Racing Post a breakdown in communication between himself and Ferguson.

“John made his decision and he felt it was the right decision,” Appleby said on Saturday. “I can only thank him for the help he has given me over the years. He has been a pleasure to work with.”

“I am employed by Godolphin to train horses to the best of my ability with the team that I have, and that is what I will carry on doing,” he added. “I'm not going to get involved in anything else; it's not my department. My department is the horses, and as I said to William [Buick], his department is to ride them. As long as we are doing the best at that, hopefully we will keep on getting the results.”

Joe Osborne, current managing director of Godolphin in Ireland, has taken up the position of interim chief executive of Godolphin's global operation.

“Joe was around the other day and just introduced himself,” Appleby added.” I've known Joe for many years and for the sake of his position we just need to let him know what we are doing and work our way from there.”
