Godolphin's Barney Roy (GB) (Excelebration {Ire}) breezed seven furlongs in company with Britannia S. bound Son Of The Stars (GB) (Delegator {GB}) over Kempton's Polytrack Monday morning in advance of Royal Ascot, Racing Post reported. One of Godolphin's main hopes for the Royal Meeting June 20-24, the G3 Greenham S. hero was only a length behind Churchill (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May.
“Barney Roy went to Kempton this morning with Son Of The Stars and had a nice breeze over seven furlongs around the right-handed bend,” trainer Richard Hannon told Racing Post. “James Doyle rode and was delighted with him. I think he'll go very well next week [in the G1 St. James's Palace S. June 20]. The track will suit him and I've been very pleased with him since Newmarket. We might have been tempted by the Derby, but I'm really pleased that we kept him fresh for this.”
Added Hannon, “Son Of The Stars goes for the Britannia [June 22]. Kieran O'Neill rode him and he went well too.”
