Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series to Be Held in Regional Victoria

The inaugural A$600,000 Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series, which will see Victoria's best up and coming country-trained runners compete for lucrative prizemoney on VRC Oaks Day, was announced by the Victoria Racing Club (VRC) and Racing Victoria (RV), reported Racing.com. The Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Series will feature eight A$50,000 heats to be divided between country Victorian tracks, ending in a A$200,000 Benchmark 80 final going 1600 metres at Flemington Racecourse on Nov. 9. Victorian trainers are eligible if they do not have a metropolitan training base, while the top two finishers in each heat will earn their way into the final. The heat venues–Murtoa, Ballarat, Cranbourne, Seymour, Geelong, Hamilton, Sale and Bendigo-will have the opportunity to host the A$200,000 Emirates Melbourne Cup Country Final with the hope of immersing locals in the atmosphere of Victoria's coveted Spring Racing Carnival and the nation's most famous race.

“The Melbourne Cup Carnival Country Final presents a wonderful opportunity for connections of country-trained gallopers to experience the magic of the Melbourne Cup Carnival, one of the world's premier racing events,” said VRC Chariman Amanda Elliott. “The VRC is also delighted to be sharing the 2017 Emirates Melbourne Cup with local racegoers as part of the series.”
