Insights on the American Racing Scene, brought to you by Alex Nichols Agency, turns the spotlight on the best U.S. races of the day, highlighting well-pedigreed horses, other horses of note returning to action and/or notable results from sales pavilions around the world. Sunday's Insights features a well-bred firster for Midwest Thoroughbreds, who campaigned the likes of champion Work All Week (City Zip) and The Pizza Man (English Channel) and played off the success of those horses to go on a spending spree a couple of years ago.

Rich and Karen Papiese's Midwest Thoroughbreds stepped up their game at the 2015 Keeneland September sale, purchasing no fewer than 10 yearlings for gross receipts of nearly $1.9 million. At $525,000, TOTAL COOPERATION (Tiznow) was the most expensive of the lot, and the dark bay has drawn gate two for this career unveiling. Trained by Tom Amoss, Total Cooperation is a daughter of Len Riggio's My Meadowview Farm homebred Marion Ravenwood (A.P. Indy), a stakes-winning daughter of GSW & MGISP Andujar (Quiet American), who was acquired by Riggio and team for $2.5 million at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton November sale. Marion Ravenwood is herself a half-sister to SW & GSP Abstraction (Pulpit). Favorite Song (Unbridled's Song), a $275K KEESEP purchase, is a maternal grandson of GSW War Thief (Lord at War {Arg}) and hails from the same female family as War Thief's GSW full-sister Watch, SW & GSP Stop Watch (Lord at War {Arg}) and SW & MGSP Remind (Deputy Minister).
