Frontiersman Heads Godolphin Trio For Newmarket

Two good chances for Charlie Appleby | Racing Post

Charlie Appleby could saddle both Frontiersman (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and Hawkbill (Kitten's Joy) for next Thursday's G2 Princess of Wales's Arqana Racing Club Stakes on the opening day of Newmarket's July meeting.

The pair finished second and third to Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in the G1 Coronation Cup at Epsom, with Hawkbill then reappearing in the G1 Grand Prix de Saint-Cloud on July 2, in which he finished sixth. Frontiersman, a son of the seven-time Group 1 winner Ouija Board (GB) Cape Cross {Ire}), was ruled out of running in the G2 Hardwicke S. at Royal Ascot after scoping badly.

Completing a trio of nominees from Godolphin is the Saeed Bin Suroor trainee Tamleek (Hard Spun) and also featuring among the 10 entries for the 1m4f contest is the Johannes Vermeer (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}), winner of the G3 Curragh Cup on his most recent outing for Aidan O'Brien.

Set to return to action after his runner-up finish in the G3 Huxley S. at Chester's May meeting is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Poet's Word (GB) (Poet's Voice {GB}), whose half-sister Whirly Dancer (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) is the dam of recent G2 Railway S. winner Beckford (GB) (Bated Breath {GB}).

Newmarket-based trainers dominate the entries, with John Gosden potentially being represented by recent Hardwicke S. runners Muntahaa (Ire) (Dansili {GB}), Western Hymn (Ire) (High Chaparral {Ire}) and Wings Of Desire (GB) (Pivotal {GB}), while David Simcock has entered Algometer (GB) (Archipenko) and Desert Encounter (Ire) (Halling).
