Showcasing's Be Bee Shines in Aushorse Golden Horseshoe

Be Bee | Singapore Turf Club

A year after sending out Caorunn (NZ) (Showcasing {GB}) to a narrow runner-up effort, trainer Shane Baertschiger rolled the dice and entered Be Bee, a maiden winner over the local Polytrack on debut just 11 days prior, in Friday's valuable Aushorse Golden Horseshoe S. at Kranji. Despite the quick turnaround, the expensive bay made the decision look wise as he swept to the lead inside the furlong and on to a convincing success at longshot odds.

Drawn gate one in the overflow field, Be Bee jumped well enough beneath John Powell and was with the early speed before easing back into a position slightly better than midfield into the turn as Charger took them along at a moderate tempo. Powell was able to ease his mount out and around the pace-pressing Captain Jamie (Aus) (Captain Sonador {Aus}) at the top of the lane, came to tackle Charger with a little better than 100m to travel and skipped away to a smooth success while jumping into his incorrect lead in the final couple strides. His final quarter-mile was covered in a race-best :23.08. Bringer of War, one of two fillies in the field, was kept in a pocket by Captain Jamie off the home turn and finished well once clear to be third.

“He had a lovely run though the race and he sprinted nicely to draw clear in the straight,” said the wining jockey. “It was his first time on grass and there were a lot of horses who got lost. But he ran away from them once he flattened out and won really well. I've worked this horse from Day 1 and he always showed good ability. He was well prepared by…the team.”

Pedigree Notes:
A full-brother to the stakes-placed Platinum Express, Be Bee was consigned by Haunui Farm, the Southern Hemisphere home to Showcasing, to the 2016 NZB Select Yearling Sale and was hammered down to Glen Harvey Bloodstock for NZ$200,000. Baertschiger signed the ticket on the October foal at NZB's Ready 2 Run Sale last November, going to NZ$250,000 after watching Be Bee breeze a furlong in a slick :10.67. The winner's second dam swept the 1992 juvenile 'Triple Crown'–the G1 Golden Slipper S., G1 Sires' Produce S. and G1 Champagne S.– en route to champion 2-year-old honours in Australia. A full-sister to MG1SP Helene Honour (Aus), Burst was herself a daughter of Sudden, the 1985 Blue Diamond Prelude winner and third in the G1 Blue Diamond S. My Other Woman was most recently returned to Showcasing, who stands the Northern Hemisphere breeding season at Whitsbury Manor Stud. Be Bee is his sire's 16th black-type winner and seventh in the Southern Hemisphere.
