Rise In Trip For Lankan Rupee

Lankan Rupee | Racing and Sports

Former Australian champion sprinter Lankan Rupee (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) will step up in trip as an 8-year-old next season, with the A$1-million G1 Memsie S. over 1400 metres a key spring target, trainer Mick Price told Racing.com. A five-time Group 1 winner, Lankan Rupee has not been victorious since the 2015 G1 Lightning S. and has run just three times over the past two years. The bay finished third in an 800-metre Caulfield jump out on Tuesday.

“We've never been to 1400 metres but he's always had good reserves of stamina on the track and a couple of times in the Manikato S. and TJ Smith S., he was really pressed to win those races and showed plenty of stamina and fight,” Price told Racing.com. “He's on track to run in the 1200-metre Bletchingly in two weeks and then might go to 1400 metres for the first time in the [G2] P.B. Lawrence, and it leads us beautifully to the Memsie two weeks after that.”
