He's Comin In Hot Scores In Bashford Manor

He's Comin in Hot, third behind subsequent Tremont S. winner Cocked and Loaded (Colonel John) in his Apr. 9 debut at Keeneland, was second at Churchill May 8, finishing ahead of Acapulco (Scat Daddy), who was third that day, but who has since won the G2 Queen Mary S. at Royal Ascot. He's Comin in Hot graduated third-time out with a front-running 4 1/2-length victory under the Twin Spires June 12. Breaking sharply from his inside draw, the bay gelding zipped out to the early lead and was in control through fractions of :22.12 and :46.21. He brushed off the upper-stretch challenge of Show Bound and sailed clear to the wire.

“He was just in a high-cruising speed,” reported winning rider Jamie Theriot. “Down the backside he had his ears pricked. It was easy and I said, 'It's over with.'” Winning trainer Bret Calhoun added, “He broke very sharp, just like he did last time. He got his feet out under him very well in the first few jumps and was able to clear and not take early pressure. That was my main concern with the one hole. But I thought he was the kind of horse that could overcome it, but you've got to have gate speed. He got a comfortable lead.” As for what is next, Calhoun said, “We'll take a look at the [July 25 GIII] Sanford next or race at Prairie Meadows on the 18th of July [in the Prairie Gold Juvenile].” He's Comin in Hot is the first foal out of stakes winner Shocktime, who was trained by Calhoun on behalf of owner/breeders Wayne Sanders and Larry Hirsch. The 6-year-old mare produced a filly by My Golden Song in 2014 and a colt by that Valor Farm stallion in 2015.
