Connections Mull Plans for German Oaks First and Third

Undefeated G1 German Oaks winner Lacazar (Ger) (Adlerflug {Ger}) is likely to test the waters away from home in the G1 Prix de l'Opera at Chantilly on Oct. 1. Trained by Peter Schiergen, the Alderflug filly was a cosy Group 1 winner at Dusseldorf on Sunday, with Charlie Appleby's Wuheida (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) only third. Despite the enticing allowance 3-year-old fillies receive in the G1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe, Schiergen is not contemplating supplementing her for the race.
“I'm not 100% sure where she will run next, but I'd imagine it will be a Group 1,” Schiergen said. “I'll have to speak to my owner. We had been considering a Group 2 at Baden-Baden, but that will probably change. The Prix de l'Opera might be the best option for her. I wouldn't have thought we'd be supplementing her for the Arc, it is very expensive to do that.”
Meanwhile, Charlie Appleby will drop G1 Prix Marcel Boussac heroine Wuheida back down in trip for the G1 Coolmore Fastnet Rock Matron S. at The Curragh on Sept. 9. The Newmarket handler will aim the Godolphin colourbearer at the mile-and-a-quarter Group 1 after she failed to see out the 1 1/2 milesĀ  when third in the German Oaks at Dusseldorf on Sunday.
“What we learned in Germany on Sunday is that she doesn't stay that trip,” he said. “But having said that, the first two home [Lacazar and Megera (Fr) (Motivator {GB})] are both nice fillies and may be very smart. The next logical step is to drop Wuheida back in distance to one mile in the Matron S. at Leopardstown on Sept. 9 before taking her to the GI Queen Elizabeth II S., over nine furlongs, at Keeneland in mid-October.”
