Cathal Ryan Dies

Swordlestown Stud supremo Cathal Ryan died on Thursday following a short battle with cancer, according to the Irish Times. He was 48 years old. The son of the late Ryanair founder Tony Ryan was best known for his ownership of the Stud near Naas, Ireland, at which he bred 2005 G1 Sussex S. winner Proclamation (Ire) and 2003 G1 Cheveley Park S. heroine Carry on Katie. Horses to run in Ryanís green silks include the dual listed winner Tipperary All Star (Ire) and Cheltenham Bumper hero Cork All Star (Ire). Tony Ryan, who owned Castleton Lyons, passed away October 3 of this year.
