New York Franchise Agreement Expected Wednesday

Scott Reif, a spokesman for Senator Joseph Bruno's office, said Tuesday that an agreement on the franchise to run New York racing is expected to be announced Wednesday. “We believe we have a deal,” Reif said. “We expect to be able to announce a final agreement by [Wednesday], and to bring the legislation to the senate floor. We will be able to provide details at that time.” Under a deal reportedly reached with political leaders Tuesday, the New York Racing Association will continue to operate New York racing for the next 25 years. The deal must be approved by the NYRA Board; a spokesman for NYRA said there would be no comment on the situation Tuesday.
