Nashoba's Key Dies

Multiple Grade I winner Nashoba's Key (Silver Hawk–Nashoba {Ire}, by Caerleon) was euthanized Wednesday morning after suffering a catastrophic injury to her left hock. Bred in California by her owner Warren B. Williamson, the five-year-old won the first seven starts of her career, including the GI Vanity H., the GII Milady Breeders' Cup H. and the GII Clement L. Hirsch H. over sythetic tracks and the GI Yellow Ribbon S. on the turf. A 3-1 chance in the GI Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, the bay endured a tough trip over the boggy going, but was beaten just two lengths in fourth. In two starts this season, she was runner-up in the Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Turf before taking the GI Santa Margarita H. Mar. 9. Nashoba's Key posted a record of 10-8-1-0 and amassed earnings of $1,252,090.
