Rain Forces Monmouth Cancels After Fifth

Heavy rains and lightning forced officials at Monmouth Park in Oceanport, New Jersey to call off racing after Sunday's fifth race. “The safety of our riders and our horses is our paramount concern,” said Dennis Dowd, senior vice president of racing for the New Jersey Sports & Exposition Authority. “With the weather conditions we experienced, and no break in sight, we were left with not other option than to cancel the remainder of the card.” The 5,393 racing fans in attendance can bring their programs back for any live racing date, excluding Haskell Day on Aug. 3, for free admission. Monmouth Park will continue live racing Wednesday.
