Big Brown Retired After Workout Injury

Big Brown (c, 3, Boundary–Mien, by Nureyev), winner of the GI Kentucky Derby and GI Preakness S., grabbed a quarter in a workout this morning and has been retired, according to IEAH co-president and co-CEO Michael Iavarone. The injury happened during a six-furlong work on turf in company with Kip Deville (Kipling) this morning on Aqueduct. ìIt looks like he grabbed a part of his foot and tore off a large chunk,î Iavarone said. ìWe have no choice but to retire him. There's nothing else we can do at this point.î The IEAH tandem completed the work in 1:12 4/5.
