Three-time Group 1 winner Gingernuts (NZ) (Iffraaj {GB}) has been released from the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic at Werribee and is continuing his recuperation at King's Park Equine Clinic, racenet.com.au reported Thursday. The Te Akau Racing colourbearer underwent an operation at the University of Melbourne clinic for a fractured pastern in his left foreleg sustained prior to the G1 Emirates S. at Flemington in November, before leaving for the King's Park Equine Clinic. However, the 4-year-old gelding was returned to the Werribee facility after his recovery wasn't progressing as planned.
“We realised one of the screws had gone amiss,” King's Park's Dr. Ben Mason told Melbourne radio station RSN927. “It hadn't broken, but we think there was a little bit of an infection around one of the heads and that was quickly dealt with. We're happy with the outcome so far.”
The 2017 G1 New Zealand Derby and G1 Rosehill Guineas hero faces another month of stall rest.
“He had a minor hiccup at the start, but the uni has done an amazing job as they always do,” Mason said of the G1 Windsor Park Plate scorer. “The prognosis is very good going forward.”
