Tampa Bay Derby Hero Odysseus Euthanized

Padua Stables's Odysseus (c, 3, Malibu Moon–Persimmon Hill, by Conquistador Cielo), a game winner of the GIII Tampa Bay Derby earlier this spring, was euthanized due to complications of laminitis Monday. The “TDN Rising Star” was receiving treatment for colitis at Haygard Equine. “Our family is deeply saddened by the loss of Odysseus,” owner Satish Sanan said. “He gave us thrills as a racehorse and it is a big loss for us not to see him fulfill his racing potential.” The $250,000 OBSMAR graduate was knocked off the Triple Crown trail after hyper extending his knee when ninth in the GI Blue Grass S. at Keeneland Apr. 10. Odysseus, bred in Kentucky by Haymarket Farm and Lakemont Stable, won three of five career starts and posted $223,670 in earnings.
