Former Champion Apprentice Dies

Former champion apprentice Bryn Crossley has died aged 59, the Racing Post reported on Thursday. Crossley who rode over 200 winners had been living in Spain for the last 15 years and died as a result of a seizure, according to close friend and former weigh room colleague Vince Smith. Crossley was born in Wales and rode his first winner in 1979 while apprenticed to Robert Armstrong in Newmarket. He then switched to Geoff Huffer's yard and was crowned champion apprentice in 1981 with 45 winners. Big race success for Crossley came in the Old Newton Cup, The Lincoln and the then G3 Fillies' Mile in 1983. He rode his final winner in 1993 and then retired to take a position as a work rider for Godolphin.
