Tatts Ireland Sees Gains

Dlauro | Tattersalls Ireland

One year after seeing a record price for a point-to-pointer at £480,000, the Tattersalls Ireland Cheltenham February Sale saw the second- and third-highest prices to date at their 2018 renewal. Topping the sale was lot 33, Dlauro (Fr) (Lauro {Ger}), consigned by Monbeg Stables (Donnchadh Doyle), who was snapped up for £410,000. Joseph O'Brien outbid Mags O'Toole. The gelding won a maiden at Belharbour by six lengths.

Envoi Allen (Fr) (Muhtathir {GB}) (lot  17) was marginally second on the day and the third dearest point-to-pointer, making £400,000 from Tom Malone. The Milestone Stables of Colin Bowe consigned the 4-year-old gelding.

“He has been bought for Mr. and Mrs. Thompson of Cheveley Park Stud to go to Gordon Elliott in Ireland,” said Malone. “I loved him-I saw him privately in the yard and I was there standing in the field when he won his point to point effortlessly.”

Third in the standings was the winning Asterion Forlonge (Fr) (Coastal Path {GB}) (lot 29) from Pay Doyle's Suirview Stables. Agent Harold Kirk made the winning bid of £290,000.

At the close of the single-day sale, 29 lots brought a total of £3,063,000. The average rose by 30% to £105,621 and the median was £65,000 (+36%).
