Winx Has Another Record In Sight

Having broken Black Caviar (Aus) (Bel Esprit {Aus})'s record for the number of Group 1 wins last Saturday, equaling that unbeaten mare's 25 race winning streak appears to be the objective Chris Waller is keenest to achieve with Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) in the short term. Assuming the mare logs her 24th win on the trot in the G1 George Ryder S. in three weeks time that will set up the possibility or perhaps likelihood of Winx emulating Black Caviar in the G1 Queen Elizabeth S. at Randwick on Apr. 14. “I think it will be very likely,” Waller told Racing.com on her participation in the A$4-million race. “It's in our backyard and it's the signature race for the autumn for the older horses.” Winx resumed as dominant as ever in the G1 Chipping Norton S. at Randwick last Saturday after which Waller again kept his counsel over a potential European trip for Winx, repeating his stance that a decision would be made after the George Ryder later this month. Having had time to reflect on her latest victory he told Racing.com on Sunday, “She's coming up to three years unbeaten. The first year was quite surreal. The second year, the pressure started to rise to say 'how can we keep this going' and now the third year, I wouldn't say it's become easier but its repetitive. We've just got to make sure she stays safe, don't over race her and she might be here a little longer.”
