A brief, but intense squall hit the Lexington area yesterday just before the start of the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Yearlings Sale, but the rain cleared in time for the sun to shine on a session-topping colt by Medaglia d'Oro–Especially Me who sold to Debbie Easter for $200,000. Craig and Holly Bandoroff's Denali Stud boasted the opening day's blue-ribbon horse, offering the athletic bay as hip 16 (ThoroStride.com galloping video).
The colt highlighted a lively day of selling at Fasig, where numbers soared from last year's corresponding figures. The average of $21,554 was up 58.7%, while the median of $12,000 was up a whopping 140%.
