It would be hard to not be impressed with the two recent wins of Godolphin's star colt Kementari (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}), who this season has recorded victories in the G3 Eskimo Prince (1200m) and the G2 Hobartville S. (1400m). Stepping up to the 1600m for the first time since his narrow second in the G1 Caulfield Guineas during the spring, the Glyn Schofield-ridden colt is clearly the one to beat in Saturday's G1 Randwick Guineas.
Charging home in the Hobartville for third, the Chris Waller-trained D'Argento (Aus) (So You Think {NZ}) looks to give his sire back-to-back victories in the Randwick Guineas after Inference (Aus) 12 months prior, and while he does need to overcome the outside barrier, he does get back in the field and it should pose no concern.
Backing up after his half-length second in the G1 Australian Guineas at Flemington last Saturday, the Darren Weir-trained Peaceful State (Aus) (Animal Kingdom {Aus}) is looking to emulate his half-brother Weekend Hussler (Aus) (Hussonet), who captured the race in 2008 as part of his seven Group 1 haul.
Fourth behind Kementari in the Hobartville, the G1 Golden Rose winner Trapeze Artist (Aus) (Snitzel {Aus}) won first-up this campaign over Showtime (Aus), who looks a chance in the G1 Canterbury S. the race prior. With Group 1 success arriving for the colt third-up last campaign, the Gerald Ryan-trained entire will further highlight his stallion credentials if he can capture another elite-level victory.
