Martino Alonso (Ire) (Marju {Ire}–Cheerful Note {GB}, by Cure the Blues), sire of Ramonti (Fr), has been euthanized after breaking his leg in his paddock, the Racing Post reported today. The 18-year-old G1 Premio Roma runner-up and resident of Azienda Agricola Antezzate had quickly established himself as one of Italy's leading sires. His small first crop included the 2005 G1 Derby Italiano winner Ramonti and that high-class performer went on to register another five successes at the top level for trainer Alduino Botti and later the Godolphin operation and now stands at Allevamento di Besnate in Italy. Martino Alonso was also responsible for the Group-class Dagda Mor (Ity), Marcret (Ity), Marshade (Ity) and Rumsfeld (Ity) prior to being kidnapped in late 2009 only to be found six months later.
