Johnny Murtagh's contract with His Highness the Aga Khan has been ended, the Racing Post revealed yesterday. The move comes nearly two years after he resumed riding for the leading owner-breeder following his resignation as number one at Ballydoyle. In a statement to the Racing Post, Murtagh said, “I was informed yesterday afternoon that my contract to ride for His Highness the Aga Khan was terminated with immediate effect. I would like to take this opportunity to thank His Highness and his staff in his studs in Ireland and France for the very successful years we have had together. I would like to sincerely wish them every success in the future.” Pat Downes, the Aga Khan's stud farm manager in Ireland, commented, “There were differences between the parties and it was agreed to end the association with immediate effect.”
