In a result surprising not for its winner, but for the margin of victory, Sherry Parbhoo’s Trinniberg (c, 3, Teuflesberg–Bella Dorato, by Goldminers Gold) parlayed his win in the GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint into a championship, as the sophomore received all but 20 of the first-place votes, with Shackleford (Forestry) well back in second. The striking dark bay won the GIII Swale S. and GIII Bay Shore S. early in the season, but was well down the field in the GI Kentucky Derby. He was able to recover from that effort to add the GII Woody Stephens S. and capped his championship campaign with a 3/4-length score over fellow sophomore The Lumber Guy (Grand Slam). He is the first 3-year-old Sprint Eclipse winner since the late Lost In the Fog (Lost Soldier) in 2005. Trinniberg recently returned to the South Florida barn of Shivananda Parboo to prepare for his 4-year-old season.
