Trainer Dale Romans beat out perennial leading trainers Bob Baffert and Todd Pletcher to earn his first Eclipse Award. The 46-year-old trainer sent out 20 graded stakes winners and the earners of over $11.7 million. Among his nine Grade I victors was Little Mike (Spanish Steps). He also saddled Dullahan (Even the Score) to victories in the GI Toyota Blue Grass S. and GI Pacific Classic and Shackleford (Forestry) to wins in the GI Metropolitan H. and GI Clark H.
