In one of the more-anticipated and most-contentious divisions, Godolphin’s Questing (GB) (Hard Spun–Chercheuse, by Seeking the Gold) was rewarded for her mid-season brilliance and, by a mere four votes, took down top honors as the nation’s top 3-year-old filly over My Miss Aurelia (Smart Strike). After a failed attempt at a turf career, Questing was switched to the dirt and skyrocketed to the head of the class, with a 4 1/4-length success in the GI CCA Oaks and a dominating nine-length tally in the GI Alabama S. My Miss Aurelia, last year’s champion 2-year-old filly, posted a memorable head win over Questing in the GI Cotillion S. in September and finished ahead of the Godolphin runner in the GI Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic, but voters went the way of Questing in a photo finish.
