Veteran jockey Mario Pino has been named the 2013 winner of the Santa Anita George Woolf Memorial Jockey Award, it was announced Friday. The award is bestowed annually on a rider “whose careers and personal character earn esteem for the individual and the sport of Thoroughbred horse racing.” Pino, a Maryland native, is the all-time leading rider in his home state and is currently ranked as the 10th most winning jockey of all time. Pino will fly to Santa Anita in March to accept the award.
