Buzz Chace Passes Away

The sport lost one of its most respected and recognizable figures Sunday when Buzz Chace, who has been a fixture on the sales and racing scene for the better part of the last half-century, passed away after losing his battle with cancer. Chace is well-known for having purchased a bevy of top class performers, most notably Unbridledís Song (Unbridled), who annexed the 1995 GI Breedersí Cup Juvenile en route to a juvenile championship before adding victories in the GI Wood Memorial and GI Florida Derby at three. Chace also is recognized as having advised on the purchase of Grade I winners Dream Rush (Wild Rush), Forest Danger (Forestry) and Awesome Gem (Awesome Again), in addition to GSWs Master Command (A.P. Indy), Value Plus (Unbridledís Song), Half Ours (Unbridledís Song) and Freedom Child (Malibu Moon), runaway victor of the May 11 GII Peter Pan S. at Belmont.
