SOUTH AFRICA BANS ANABOLIC STEROIDS
†† Falling in line with the recent position taken by the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities, the Board of the National Horseracing Authority of South Africa has announced that anabolic steroids will be banned in- and out-of-competition in that country. The ban will be introduced Dec. 1 and will go into effect June 1, 2014, allowing six months for treated horses to be cleared of the drugs. Random testing will take place after June 1, and any trainer or owner violating the rule will be found guilty of an offence.
