Saturday's GI Travers S. came down to a photo finish, but as Tom Durkin put it, “Jimmy Jerkens won the Travers.” Indeed, it was the longer-priced of the two stablemates, 19-1 V. E. Day (English Channel) who pipped his more accomplished barn companion Wicked Strong (Hard Spun) in the narrowest of finishes. Al Kazeem (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) returned to his winning ways in the G3 Winter Hill S. Saturday and bigger things could lie ahead for the classy 6-year-old. And it's Pacific Classic day at Del Mar Sunday, with the big race–a Breeders' Cup Challenge race for the Classic–supported by the GII Del Mar Mile and GII Pat O'Brien S., the latter of which gets the winner a spot in the Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.
