Pushed along to close nearing the final quarter mile, the 10-1 chance was headed by Rive Gauche (GB) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) soon after hitting the front with 1 1/2 furlongs to go, but rallied gamely for two flicks of the persuader in the closing stages to deny that rival by a head in the shades of the post.
