Before Zenyatta (Street Cry {Ire}), there was her half-sister Balance (Thunder Gulch), who carried the silks of John and Jerry Amerman to a trio of Grade I victories and $1 million in earnings. The mare's value has increased exponentially with the exploits of her undefeated sibling, and yesterday, the seven-year-old's first foal, a son of A.P. Indy, caught the imagination of the bidding public, selling to Benjamin Leon's Besilu Stables for $4.2 million from the consignment of Mill Ridge Sales. It was subsequently reported that the colt would ultimately be trained by Todd Pletcher. Leon also made headlines at Fasig-Tipton's Saratoga sale last month, going to $1.2 million for a son of A.P. Indy out of champion Maryfield (Elusive Quality).
