Lone Offering in Foal to Sea the Stars Sells for $2.1M

The lone mare in the Keeneland November sale in foal to Sea the Stars (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}), a Sadler's Wells half-sister to Giant's Causeway and Freud, etc., was hammered down to Frank and Laura Jane Lyon's Summer Wind Farm for $2.1 million. Love Me Only was consigned by Eaton Sales, agent. It was 15 years ago that the Coolmore braintrust went to $2.6 million for Mariah's Storm (Rahy), a six-time winner at the Grade II and Grade III level and Grade I placed. The foal she was carrying at the time became Giant's Causeway, the “Iron Horse,” who won no fewer than a half-dozen Group 1 events in Europe and nearly upset Tiznow in the 2000 GI Breeders' Cup Classic. Mariah's Storm's other produce, while less illustrious by definition, have gone on to success at stud in the U.S., most notably Freud, sire of GI Vosburgh S. hero Giant Ryan.
