Riichi Kondo came to the Japan Racing Horse Association's foal session prepared for battle over a special colt by leading sire Deep Impact (Jpn) out of American Horse of the Year Azeri (Jade Hunter) and he emerged the victor on a bid of ᆬ250 million ($2,450,981). “This is the pick of the day, the best individual in the foal session, so I really wanted to buy him,” Kondo said. “I thought my strongest competitor might be a foreign buyer, so I was ready to bid on until ᆬ300 million without any hesitation. This price was within my reach.” The bay colt is the second consecutive foalᅠby Deep Impact out of Azeri to top ᆬ200 million at the sale, with last year's colt selling for ᆬ240 million ($2,352,942).
