+SLOANE SQUARE (f, 3, Giant’s Causeway–
Marylebone {GISW, $171,800}, by Unbridled’s Song), whose dam annexed the 2003 GI Matron S. for these same connections, was backed down to 4-5 favoritism for this unveiling, one day after her omnipresent conditioner took home the Eclipse for outstanding trainer. Away well enough, the grey struggled to keep up with her competition in the early going, and was a well-back fifth while appearing to have trouble gripping the track behind a contested opening quarter in :22.27. She finally got going after a half in :45.99, and caught the eye as she closed the gap leaving the home bend. Given little encouragement by Javier Castellano, Sloane Square catapulted past foes well out in the track and right by leader Creative Spirit (Smarty Jones) late to win by a geared-down 1 3/4 lengths. Richiesredhothoney (Malibu Moon), a relative of Pleasant Home (Seeking the Gold), Point of Entry (Dynaformer), Pine Island (Arch), Sky Beauty (Blushing Groom {Fr}), Maplejinsky (Nijinsky II), Tale of Ekate (Tale of the Cat), et al, was third. She’s Justified (Harlan’s Holiday), a half-sister to Eclipse finalist for female sprinter Dance to Bristol (Speightstown), completed the superfecta. Marylebone, a $725,000 KEESEP yearling in 2002, produced Bow Bells (Giant’s Causeway) one year before Sloane Square. That filly annexed Monmouth’s grassy Twin Lights S. this past August. Sloane Square has a 2-year-old full brother, and a yearling half-sister by Uncle Mo. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $25,200. Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
