Coolmore Acquires Rubick Interest

COOLMORE ACQUIRES RUBICK INTEREST
Coolmore Stud acquired an interest in boom Australian 2-year-old colt and J “TDN Rising Star” J Rubick (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}) just ahead of his victory in yesterday’s G3 Blue Diamond Prelude S. at Caulfield. Rubick, who is now two-for-two, will race for the existing partnership of David Raphael’s Stallion Racing, Teeley Assets, Neil Werrett and Coolmore, who will stand the colt at the conclusion of his racing career. Gerald Ryan will continue to train.
Coolmore Australia’s Tom Magnier said, “We’ve been looking for a son of Encosta de Lago, who is coming to the end of a great stud career, and we think we’ve found him in Rubick. He’s a particularly good-looking individual with unbelievable ability and a sensational stallion’s pedigree, so he looks the real deal.”
Produced by a 3/4-sister to the outstanding sire Redoute’s Choice (Aus) (Danehill), Rubick was purchased by Raphael for A$460,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast yearling sale in 2013, and the well-known media commentator and racing advisor is excited about the new partnership.
“Gerald Ryan has made no secret of the regard in which he holds this colt –he says he’s the best he’s trained–and as such we’ve been fielding expressions of interest in and offers for Rubick for quite some time,” said Raphael. “However, the opportunity to partner with Coolmore, the most successful stud farming operation in the world, was an irresistible one and I hope that we are lucky together.”
On the heels of a sparkling barrier trial, Rubick debuted with the weight of the world on his shoulders at Rosehill Jan. 25, streaking home by three lengths. The effort took him straight to the top of the ante-post markets for the G1 Golden Slipper S. in early April, though Ryan has yet to officially commit to the world’s richest juvenile race. He also became the favorite for the Feb. 22 A$1 million G1 Blue Diamond S. following that effort, although Darley homebred filly Earthquake (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) moved slightly ahead in both markets yesterday after her victory in the filly’s version of the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude.
